Music Lessons: Don’t Miss Another Exciting Year At Rysons
ByAnother muscial, educational , rewarding and fun year for our
students is about to begin.
To Register: send a note to anne@RysonsMusic.com or give me a call at 905-682-6832. - Anne.
Once agian this year we are pleased to offer music lessons for the following musical instruments; Piano, violin, voice, flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, french horn, tuba, drums, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, classical guitar, and bass guitar. All of our lessons contain music theory, history, harmony, and counterpoint. And of course we are rapidly becoming known as the Home of FiddleFest and Fiddle Lessons, and groups.
Our brass and woodwinds students will have the opportunity to take the Royal Conservatory Exams, and on the fun side, they’ll be able to participate in our many band groups playing for local Festivals and Concerts.
Last year our music teachers and students set many new standards and records of accomplishment.
We’re very proud of; Brian Heximer (grade 8 tuba). Brian has been accepted at Western University this fall; Ferhus Grundy received grade 6 trombone; Tyler Versluis received grade 9 oboe; Brianna Wing received grade 9 oboe and is working on grade 10; Susan Wassill was the Kiwanis Festival winner in flute; Spencer D’Amore won in trumpet; and many more students have accomplished their credits for high school and university in brass and woodwinds.
We believe that students who invest hard work and real dedication to their music lessons, deserve to have a little fun as well.
A couple of years ago we began to form student bands. This gives the student first hand experience in playing with other musicians, and in public
Of course our most famous student band in the last couple of years has been the Golden Hammers.
This year the Hammers have performed at several different
functions, and their popularity continues to grow. Some of their performances included; Friendship Festival Ft. Erie, Canal Days, Pt. Colborne, GM Car Show, Knights of Columbus Centennial, and several school fun fairs. The Golden Hammers were also nominated for the Niagara Music Awards, and won the Downtown Association “In The Soil”.
They will be performing once again at the Grape and Wine Festival at Montebello Park, and for the Pied Piper Parade on September 19th. They’ll also be at the Community Living Center in Queenston Heights on Sept. 12th.
We also have a new group called the Rockin’ Daisies. This is an “All Girls” rock group with members ranging from ages 12 to 15. These gals have a lot of attitude and have already caught the attention of the local community at Canal Days, and the GM Car Show.

The Rockin’ Daisies will be playing at Climate, at Montebello Park for Grape and Wine Festival Sept. 19th., and for Community Living in Queenston Heights on Sept. 12.
Both the Golden Hammers, and the Rockin’ Daisies are under the musical direction of Dave Tufford and myself. They are available to perform at public functions. Just give me a call at Ryson’s or send me an email to anne@rysonsmusic.com.
Our Rock Bands under the direction of; Dave Tufford, Torry Doyle, Jordan Phelan, Tim Popek, and myself performed extremely well in the Kiwanis Music Festival.
We received a lot of compliments from the adjudicators and parents of the students.
- The Senior Band played ThunderStruck by ACDC for a score of 96
- Intermediate Band played Back in the USSR for a 95
- The Junior Band scored a 93 for their performance of Every Breath you take. All guitar solos were outstanding.
Our vocal students were not to be outdone by their instrumental counterparts. Last year’s Junior Idol winner, Natalie Vurro successfully defended her title as the Junior Idol for 2009. You may know Natalie as the very talented female singer who appears with the Hammers. Also Kayla McGowan won the Mini Idol in vocals. Both of these young ladies are under the direction of our vocal teacher Lauren Gasbarini.
Several of our voice students completed and passed their Royal Conservatory Exams; Samantha Allison, Abby Cryer, Natasha Kowalenko, Karen Hart, and many more.
Piano Achievements; Sarah Vanderzalm just completed her grade 9 and Tyler Versluis passed his grade 8 piano in addition to grade 9 oboe as mentioned above. Then there was Kristopher Grude ,Lindsay and many more who reached their goals and working towards their credits for university.
Our Violin Lessons are excellent. Private lessons at Royal Conservatory Standards and Suzuki studies as well. Larissa Milar is working on grade 8 violin, as well as Allison Scholten and Ben Abrahams and many more serious violin students. Trisha Gorman who has turned into a fine player, overcame some techique problems and has worked very hard this year. Trisha deserves a big bouquet and a great round of applause for her accomplishment.
As you can see, Ryson’s Studio is our Musical Family. We work very hard to achieve our musical goals and credits, but we also have a lot of fun which we believe is the reason our students accomplish so much.
No boredom here. Our students enjoy the opportunities to play in public for the community which in turn supports them.
If you’d like to become a member of our family, simply send me a note to anne@rysonsmusic.com, or give me a phone call at 905-682-6832. We’re open Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 9:00pm, and on Saturday 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Early sign up for music lesson gives you prime time and your favourite teacher. Welcome to Rysons. The richest child is poor without a musical education.

As the Brass and Woodwind teacher for Ryson’s, I find that working there with the students is a privilege and an honor. The students usually are hard workers and very smart. They sometimes teach me as much as I teach them. We have fun and work hard. Even through the pain and embarassment of braces. There are ways to work with them. I welcome the chance to work with every one and Hope to see you in September.
The students must be at least 9 years of age. This is a safety issue for them. Safety and fun and accomplishment are very important. I can help your child make their brass and woodwind dreams come closer.
Thank you
Andrea

Music is such a HUGE part of my life, and I’m so glad that Rysons has been here to support me and teach me so much more! The teachers are very talented, absolutely amazing, and very supportive of everyone’s musical ambitions and abilities.
It’s so great, I hope to start taking lessons for other instruments!

What a welcoming place to take lessons. From the first cheery greeting from Anne, who knows everyone’s name and interests, to the talented and caring teachers, who provide top notch training with opportunities to be a part of a band, music lessons become exciting.
Students range from the young, to the young at heart. Whether you want to play strings, woodwinds, brass or drums, come to Rysons because Rysons Rocks!

At Ryson’s it isn’t just about the music, but about the children too. Anne and all teachers are wonderful about praising all the students from beginners to long time students. My own two kids’ teachers are Tim Popek, Jordan Phelan and Dave Tufford. They have all taught my children not only music, but confidence in their own abilities as well. Jessica is one of the Rockin’ Daisies and is having the time of her life!

Taking drums at Rysons isn’t like a regular lesson, it’s not what you’d expect it, Tim gets to know you, and you get to know him, soon its not even like a drum lesson its like going to hangout with a friend. Music is a big part of life, but theres no problem with making it fun along the way.

My kids say every week thanks mom for picking Ryson’s music studio “It’s the best!” It is amazing how Anne remembers everyone’s name. Anne gives every student the opportunity to shine. She encourages the students to do their very best and have fun! We have been with Ryson’s for more then two years and we love the family atmosphere. Everyone is extremely friendly and our whole family has made many friends for life. The talented teaching staff is so dedicated to their students. These are teachers that go the extra mile …..And it shows. You can tell they love their jobs. Thank-you for sharing your talent! A special thanks to Dave Tufford who keeps the weekly music lesson fun still challenging and all the extra time that Dave and Jordan Phelan and Tim Popek put into the band.
Thank-you so very much

It really has been a wonderful year of learning at Rysons. I am looking forward to another great year of musical exploration and fun. As a guitar teacher I get to see so many young faces looking forward to being able to play in a band or learn a song from their favorite group. It is such an honour to be a part of their musical journey. Rysons is really such a fun and comfortable place to learn. The camaraderie among the staff is amazing and it really is like an extended family. Here’s to another great year!

My son has been taking lessons for a year, and he loves it. Great teachers, great studio. All the kids have fun, and the adults too. He is usually very shy, but he is very comfortable at Rysons, he looks forward to going every week. Dave lets him practice the songs that he likes, and he has learned of many other great artists.
I would like to thank Anne and all the teachers, I don’t think he would love playing guitar if it weren’t for you.

Taking lessons at Rysons has been a great experience because I’m playing the instrument that I love with kind and awesome teachers. Without the teachers and Anne, I don’t think the experience would be quite the same. My guitar teacher Dave Tufford helps me learn the kind of music I like and suggests song that he thinks I would like. I look forward to my lessons every week, but not only because I get to play my instrument, but I get to have fun. Every time I come home after a lesson I’m smiling. I have also been given the opportunity to play in the Rockin’ Daisies, which is amazing.

Wow!! What can I say. THANK YOU isn’t enough Anne. I couldn’t have choosen a better place to bring the boys for music lessons. They Love it! I Love it! Thank you for all you and Don & Dave & Guenther & Jordan & Tim & Lauren and every other teacher at Rysons does. You make my kids want to come for lessons. They are always anxious for the next time. They have made some wonderful friends (as have I) and memories already, even at their young age. What a gift!!
It turns out that being a gig mom is way better than being a soccer mom. Way heavier but way better.
If you are thinking of getting your child (or yourself) into lessons, Rysons is the place to do it!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to say the Anne Deyme is the glue that holds Rysons together. The glue is that she is tireless in her commitment to her students. I chose Rysons after the first call. Anne described a vision for her students so compelling I couldn’t wait for my son to start. Rysons offered not only lessons but they give their students the opportunity to work together as a team of musicians in one the many band camps that they offer throughout the year.
In fact it was through the band camps that my son was offered the chance to become a member of the Golden Hammers, a band formed by Rysons. Dave and Jordan, both guitar teachers and Tim, my son’s drum teacher work very hard with the bands to get the right sound and we can’t thank them enough for all the extra time that they put in and support they offer to our children. They inspire the kids to want to do their best.
My family has enjoyed becoming members of the extended family that Anne and Don have created at Rysons. They make learning music exciting and I couldn’t help but catch the bug myself. I signed up to take some lessons the other day. Wish my new teacher Lauren luck; I think she may need it.

I’ve been taking drum lessons at Ryson’s Music for 4 years now, and I’ve learned so much about music. The teacher’s there are the nicest people you’ll meet. Every Tuesday is my drum lesson with Tim, It’s definitely the highlight of my week. Anne put together an all girl’s band called The Rockin’ Daisies, I love being a part of this band, and love to jam with the girls!!
THANK YOU!! :]

Hey! I’m Tim. I teach drums at Rysons. My main focus with students is to teach them that music is a language. Rhythm is a major part of that language. Without it, you just have notes. Rhythm is everywhere. Even as you read this note. The sentences have rhythm to them. Learn the rhythm, learn the language. Then you can have a musical conversation with other musicians! This is also knows as a “Jam session,” and works the same way for all styles of music.
I love when students work hard and ask questions. Playing, and talking about drums is the best part of my day. I have played all over North America, worked on film, and am a award winning jazz artist.
Want to know more? Come to Rysons.
Thanks.
Tim.

My daughter Jess has been taking drum lessons for 3.5 years and I think she has become an accomplished player. Tim, her teacher keeps things fun, and Jess really enjoys going there. Anne is to be commended for her dedication in helping the students reach their potential. The bands she has put together give the students a wonderful opportunity to get out there and play. That’s what it’s all about! Thanks for all your hard work guys.
