Kiwanis Music Festival: Garden City April 16th
Posted by: | CommentsKiwanis Music Festival begins April 16th.
Rysons Studio of Music motto is: “The Richest Child is Poor without a Musical Education”.
That is why Rysons has supported the Kiwanis Music Festival in the Garden City for over 70 years.
Students get the opportunity to showcase their performances in music, dance, and speech arts from private teachers and from the school systems. Kiwanis Scholarships and certificates are sponsored by the Garden City Kiwanis Music Festival which Rysons Studio has been receiving for over 70 years. It is believed that Governor General Earl Grey advocated the establishment of the Kiwanis Music Festivals in 1908 in Edmonton.
Competitions are in voice, piano, strings, speech arts, guitar, fiddle and brass and woodwinds. Performances can be solos, duets, trios and groups with music selected or own choice.
- All sheet music must be original; no photocopies allowed.
- A separate entry form must be filled out for each entry, solos are $12.00, duets are $15.00 and groups are $20.00.
- Entries can be dropped off at 200 Dalhousie Avenue or at Rysons Studios at 5 Court St., St. Catharines, Ont.
Each year, thousands of music students gain confidence and the ability to perform in public in addition to the opportunity to obtain scholarships, certificates and to go on to the Kiwanis Provincials Music Festival and then on to the Kiwanis National Music Festival once they received awards in their local festival.
Garden City Kiwanis obtains highly qualified adjudicators, often from the Royal Conservatory of Music where they were or are examiners.
If you are selected from the Kiwanis Festival you will go to Provincials, from Provincials you will go to National Music Festival which will showcase the finest classical musicians. The winner in each category will receive $1500.00 and will join a gala recital of the seven category winners.
Attendance at these competitions is free except for dance.
Volunteers are always welcome to help out the chairman of the section; if interested please join us.
Please come and join us to see our young students progress in Master Classes, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century, Chopin, Bach repertoire, Popular, Musical Theatre, Sacred Hymns, Sonata String Classes, Concerto Classes, String Ensembles, Jazz and much more.
Garden City Kiwanis Music Festival begins with Dance April 16-19, followed by Speech April 20-May 1, Piano on April 27, Brass, woodwinds, recorders and percussion May 1, Strings May 4-7, Fiddle May 7, Guitar May 8 and concludes with Vocals from May 11-15.
We believe that music has a power of forming the character and should therefore be introduced into the education of the young.
At Rysons Studio we wish all the music students a great and wonderful performance, and hope you enjoy the experience.
Note to Music Students: “Don’t forget your original sheet music.“
